…a battery?
OK, I’ll admit it, I’m kinda a geek. But I’m more geeky when it comes to Apple and their products vs. Windows.
That said, even though Steve Jobs didn’t give the keynote address yesterday, I still followed the feeds to see what was going on. Before they got to the “One more thing…” ending of the presentation, they announced face recognition technology in iPhoto with geo tagging, a new GarageBand where Sting will teach you music, a new suite of iWork features and lastly new iMovie editing software.
And then Phil Shiller said the famous Apple line of MacWorld’s past… “One more thing…” and when that came they introduced their new “17 Apple MacBook Pro and the most revolutionary thing about the device was… the battery? Yes, it was. This is a battery that increases by 60% the charge to 8 hours of use and triples the number of “re-charges” to 1000 vs. the batteries in their other models. This is huge.
Anyone that can “win” at the battery game will win “the game”… literally. That is the holy grail of the computer and electronic world… longer lasting and longer working batteries. Trade-offs to make this happen? The battery isn’t removable without a screw driver. This is bucking the conventional wisdom just as they did with the iPod and iPhone before it and I believe it’s still a huge winner and game changer.
Soon (a year or two from now) all of Apple’s laptops will take the same path and I believe that by increasing the working charge by 60% and tripling the lifespan of the battery, people will flock to it.

great catch on the battery evolution. Something to add from my department is that not only is battery life the “holy grail” of the computer and electronic industry but also of the solar, car and renewable energy industries. Much progress is being made as we speak. sunfarmernews.com has more…….cheers my man
