What is YOUR trade…

…and WHY do you need one?

As the number of blog posts begin to grow on this new home of mine, you’re going to hear more and more about why I believe it is important for you to have a trade.

A trade, as I define it, is a skill and knowledge base that you have which can provide value. It can be anything from dog-walking to plumbing to bus driving to web design or bar-tending.

You see, a trade is your safety net. Should something happen in your current occupation, you can fall back on your trade to make a living and survive. A trade also allows you the opportunity to take a risk, try something new and exciting (like a new career or starting a business) and if after much effort or many dollars spent you don’t succeed in supporting yourself and your family in your new endeavour, you have your trade to fall back on until the next opportunity presents itself.

So, what’s your trade?… and if you don’t have one, what would you like it to be?
