Looking up to teenagers…

by Ethan on January 8, 2009

I came across THIS ARTICLE recently (which was written back in Nov. ‘08) that lists 20 top entrepreneurs who are under the age of 21 (most are teenagers). I’m not writing this post to make you jealous of their success (they’re making huge money) even though I was after my first read… I’m writing this post because they are the ones who can help you out.

All of these entrepreneurs use the Internet to make their fortunes. And the Internet makes that possible by being this magical place where age really doesn’t matter and these business people (kids) capitalize on that.

For a bit of back story… I started a business when I was in high school. It was one of those 900 number deals where someone calls in to get some information and/or a product and then pays for it on their phone bill.  My business was about safe sex… someone would call, they heard a 10 minute recording about safe sex and STD’s and then they were sent an assortment of unique (glow in the dark, colorful, etc.) condoms. No one that I dealt with knew my age because everything was done over the phone… much like these kids. I put one ad in Rolling Stone magazine and got 18 calls… needless to say, the ROI wasn’t worth it.

Anyway, the point of this post is that depending on your product or service, the teenage entrepreneurs listed in the above article are the PERFECT ones to promote your product or service if you are targeting their demographic. So, get over their age and leverage their experience, contacts and vocabulary… they could make you a mint.
