This works for me… and it might work for you too… or maybe not.
I just heard the term public accountiblity recently and after some thought, realized that I have been using this action in my creative and personal pursuits for years without actually realizing it.
I told people that I wanted to go to Boston for college… and I did. I told people that I was going to study abroad in Australia… and I did. I told people that I was going to move to New York City after college to work in film… and I did. I told people that I was going to make a short film… and I did. I told people about the various scripts that I was going to write… and I did.
Without even realizing it, I was using the tool of public accountiblity. This tool has helped me to achieve my goals since I didn’t want anyone asking how one of my goals was going without having something to report back.
And with this blog, without even realizing it until I heard the term last week, I’m using public accountibility yet again to make sure that we (my wife and I) complete and launch our latest project, “The Business”. Stay tuned…
UPDATE: For the record, MY definition of “public accountibility” is telling someone about something you’re going to do with the benefit of feeling pressure to accomplish what it is you’ve set out to do.
